What does it mean to be Muslim in India today? | Ziya Us Salam

Ziya Us Salam is a veteran journalist and author, currently working as an Associate Editor at the national daily, The Hindu.

His latest book, Being Muslim in Hindu India, is a documentation of the increasingly ubiquitous marginalisation and prejudice that the Indian Muslim community is facing in India’s contemporary socio-political scenario. His work enumerates the range of active ‘otherisation’, from daily stigmatisation to an alarming increase in episodes of explicit violence.

In this interview, Mr. Salam explains this compounded discrimination in terms of political marginalisation, social invisibilization and economic persecution.
